Breaking Blue is a folk and acoustic music band from Albuqerque, New Mexico. Vibrant with rich female vocal harmonies, traditional clawhammer banjo juxtaposed with classical flute, the band brings a fun and light approach to a dynamic range of songs from traditional American folk songs, originals, and select covers. Their “Shabby-Chic” Americana music has become a local town favorite for both private and public performances.
“The first thing that catches your ear is the sweet, classically trained voice of Chrystal Copeland (mandolin), shadowed by the plaintive harmonies of Cassie Rogers (guitar). But when it comes to Breaking Blue, what really holds your ear is the unusual frontline pairing of Randy Martin’s clawhammer banjo, and where you might expect to hear a fiddle, Stephanie Liu’s flute. Add Shawn Berkompas’s bass and the percussion of Isaac Sanderville, and this is not your grand-dad’s folk band. It’s definitely not Bluegrass, Appalachian, or Celtic either…. The bands repertoire elegantly mixes old folk tunes, original compositions, new lyrics matched with old folk instrumentals, and old lyrics snatched from histories dustbin. The sound is blended from the divergent influences from the band members- from rock and hard core metal to classical and jazz.” – ABQ the Magazine
